Cool Lipo-Minimally Invasive, Laser Assisted!
Now, enjoy the fat removing benefit of liposuction and tighter skin with minimal discomfort and recovery time, thanks to the revolutionary laser assisted cosmetic procedure known as Cool Lipo. Cool Lipo is a newer generation than Smart Lipo, and results in better tightening of the skin, no skin pigmentary changes, and overall enhanced body sculpting results!
Here's the science behind the new Cool Lipo laser liposuction procedure. The Cool Lipo uses a unique wavelength (1320 nm), which is uniformly absorbed by fat, water, and collagen while having little effect on hemoglobin and melanin.
In contrast, the SmartLipo wavelength (1064 nm) tends strongly to be absorbed by the pigments and can cause skin pigmentary changes. In addition, Cool Lipo is the only laser system that can melt fat by photo acoustics (in which the vibration of the wavelength will make fat cells rupture) and remove the liquefied fat at the same time. This is possible due to its patented technology (Duet Cannula).
Cool Lipo has significantly improved the safety, efficiency and body sculpting results compared to previous laser systems. Cool Lipo also cools the skins surface with pulses of cooling cryogen to reduce discomfort and reddening.
Procedure Details and Frequently Asked Questions
The treatment area is anesthetized using a Tumescent method. This means depositing a dilute anesthetic solution into the fatty plane of tissue so it swells with the fluid making the fat plane numb and more obvious. You will be awake during the entire procedure (if you wish, you may have a mild sedative prior to the procedure).
A small cannula (wand-like apparatus which contours the laser fiber) is inserted into a small incision through the skin into the treatment area. The laser energy disrupts and liquefies the fat which is then removed with a suction device. This promotes more rapid contouring and skin tightening. After the procedure, a steri-strip may be applied to the small incision(s) and is placed over the treated areas with a compression garment.
A day or two of drainage occurs from the small access holes made on the skin. The treated area can be somewhat swollen from the leftover tumescent anesthetic and melted fat. Your lymphatic system will remove this leftover mixed fluid over a period of days. (Don't worry, the melted fat does NOT “reimplant” or go to other areas of the body).
A special advantage of Cool Lipo: The Cool Lipo wavelength shrinks the collagen and stimulates new collagen formation which continues for 6-10 months. This minimizes the appearance of loose skin as the collagen naturally makes the skin tighter and more elastic.
CoolLipo Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need?
For most patients the desired result is achieved in just one visit. The length of the procedure depends on the area being treated with an average of one hour for an individual area.
How long will it take for the treated area to heal?
The healing time frame depends on the number of areas treated and individual healing abilities. The small incision should heal within days.
How long before I notice results?
Patients should see results within a week post-procedure and will also notice a continual improvement of skin texture and tightness in the treated area 6-10 months post-procedure.
What areas of the body can be treated with CoolLipo?
CoolLipo can be used on many areas of the body such as: neck, chin, jaw line, upper arms, thighs, lower stomach, waist (love handles), knees and other areas with loose skin and fat pockets that won’t go away with diet and exercise.
How much downtime will I have after Cool Lipo treatment?
Because Cool Lipo is a minimally invasive procedure, there is a little to no downtime and you are able to function and work in most cases immediately. In some cases, if a patient has multiple areas treated, they may choose to rest for around 1-2 days.
How long do CoolLipo results last?
Because Cool Lipo removes fat cells and adults do not create new fat cells, the results of the procedure are permanent.
Why should I choose Cool Lipo over other similar laser-assisted lipolysis laser procedure?
Cool Lipo’s unique 1320 nm wavelength provides better skin tightening and lifting benefits in addition to fat lipolysis. In addition, there is minimal risk of skin pigmentary changes using the 1320 wavelength than with other lasers’ wavelengths.
Who is a good candidate for Cool Lipo ?
Many people with areas of fat that have not responded well to diet and exercise and are generally in good health are candidates for Cool Lipo.
What if I have lost a lot of weight and have loose skin?
CoolLipo is indicated for reduction of stubborn fat pockets as outlined earlier. It is also indicated for skin tightening, whether or not you have fatty areas to be treated. For example, if you lose a lot of weight and have resulting lax, hanging skin, CoolLipo can be performed to tighten up this skin. No laser lipolysis needs to be done in this instance.
Cool Lipo Compared to Conventional Liposuction
Cool Lipo, without trauma to surrounding tissues, gently melts and liquefies fat. After suctioning the liquid fat out, the Cool Lipo laser is used under the skin to tighten the skin, resulting in a smooth, tightened contour. The physician can easily see a red "guide light" shining through the skin, ensuring the proper depth of the laser, and aiding in smooth, complete application of the laser lipolysis.
In contrast, conventional liposuction is a purely mechanical pushing, pulling and tearing of the fatty tissue in order to remove it. This may tear nearby blood vessels, nerves, connective tissue, and may over-thin the skin. The pieces of fat are suctioned out, and the process cannot be well visualized to guide smooth, even application of this rather rough method. With this "conventional liposuction," there is: increased pain, increased down time, increased bruising, and often bleeding. Besides, conventional liposuction can not achieve smooth results or retract the skin.
Can Cool Lipo and VaserLipo take the place of a surgical tummy tuck?
Often using Cool Lipo and Vaser Lipo to remove fat and effectively shrink skin eliminates the need for a tummy tuck.? After removing large amounts of fat with Vaser Lipo without damaging vessels or nerves, patients are treated with Cool Lipo for further fat reduction and skin tightening.? This combined treatment is faster, is more comfortable, has minimal downtime, results in superb skin tightening, and leaves virtually no scars in comparison to a surgical tummy tuck.
Cost of laser liposuction
The cost varies depending on several factors such as:
- Number of areas to be treated
- Amount of fat to be removed from those areas
- Cost of compression garments
- Laboratory tests
- Number of follow-up visits post-liposuction.
- Fee variations among doctors who perform laser liposuction. When inquiring about liposuction, make sure the cost includes the entire package without any additional charges or fees.
Why Cool Lipo
Obviously, cost is an important factor when considering laser liposuction. However, the quality of laser liposuction is more important than the cost of getting it. The goal of laser liposuction is to get the best possible aesthetic result in order to leave the patient happy. This body reshaping surgical art is influenced by the surgeon’s skills, experience and by the technology that he uses.
There are mainly two laser liposuction wavelengths, the 1064 nm and the 1320 nm. SmartLipo uses 1064 nm and Cool Lipo uses 1320 nm. SmartLipo has been in the market for around 3 years and has increased the power of its laser at least 3 times (6 watts, 12 watts, 18 watts and recently to 30 watts) in order to melt fat more efficiently. In addition to this low power, the SmartLipo wavelength (1064 nm) does not have photo acoustic effect and does not provide optimal results.
The new SmartLipo MDX uses up to 30 watts and is the only SmartLipo device that gets close to the power of Cool Lipo. However, its 1064 nm wavelength is still lacking in the photo acoustic effect and cannot achieve the same smooth fat-melting results as that of Cool Lipo. In addition, it cannot achieve the same skin tightening as that of the Cool Lipo. The reason behind this fact is that the CoolLipo laser wavelength is absorbed by water and collagen resulting in better skin tightening. Furthermore, the wavelength is not absorbed by melanin or hemoglobin like in the SmartLipo laser thus causing fewer side effects.
The cost of LaserLipo may be cheaper if the surgeon uses low laser power such as those used in the first generation of SmartLipo lasers using 6, 12, or 18 watts. These lasers will not achieve the same liposuction results as the SmartLipo MDX or Cool Lipo disregarding the skills of the surgeon.
Choosing a surgeon based on the low price might be the most expensive choice if the initial cosmetic results are so poor that another surgeon must be paid to repair the work of the first surgeon if the repair is possible. Among the most common undesirable outcomes of liposuction are incomplete liposuction (minimal improvement), excessive liposuction (causing unnatural or disfigured appearance), irregular and uneven results with depression in the skin and large scars. While the cost of liposuction is an important factor, the quality of the results is much more important.
