Lesion Removal

Skin lesions often cause insecurity, irritation and discomfort specially if they are in the face, neck or other visible body area.

There are various benign skin lesions that can be removed, including moles, skin tags, warts, keratosis and scars. Most of these growths are benign; however, some moles may be pre malignant or malignant. Many patients have benign moles and lesions that they wish to be removed for cosmetic reasons. Most of these lesions can be easily removed with little to no scarring. On the other hand, pre malignant or malignant lesions need to have biopsy.

Contemporary treatment options to remove skin lesions include lasers, electrosurgery and radiowave surgery.  Our office uses all these newest technologies for lesion removal. Most benign moles and lesions can be removed without any incision or stitches. By eliminating incisions and sutures, the final scar is usually undetectable. Although no surgeon can guarantee the lack of scar, these methods, in our experience, leave a much less scar than other methods such as scalpel excision or liquid nitrogen. Freezing moles and lesions can cause depressed white scars that are very unsightly.

Radiowave surgery is a new technology that melts away and cuts the tissue. Besides, is extremely gentle to surrounding tissues and causes much less damage than electrosurgery, laser or liquid nitrogen.

The procedure takes less than a minute to remove moles or other lesions without cutting or stitches. For benign lesions, a numbing cream is applied and a small amount of local anesthesia is injected with a very small needle. After removing the lesion, a raw area the size of the mole is left, then the surgical site is covered with an antibiotic ointment, the wound heals in 5 to 7 days. The pink area will persist for several weeks and eventually fades to normal skin color. Although most moles and lesions are removed in a single session, a small percentage may require an additional treatment. Patients are scheduled for follow up at 8 weeks and many times the patients can not tell where the lesion was.

Call our office to schedule a consultation and learn the benefits of radiowave surgery to get rid off moles, warts, keratosis or other benign skin lesions. If a mole or a lesion is removed for cosmetic reasons, insurance coverage does not apply. However, biopsy of any lesion or pigmented mole that is suspicious of becoming skin cancer is usually cover by the insurance.
