The Injection target for each filler may be different. For instance, Juvederm Voluma is injected in the subcutaneous tissues or above the periosteum, whereas Restylane silk or Juvederm Ultra are injected in the superficial dermis. Since each product has a particle size characteristic that is different, how and where they are placed is critical to their proper use, effect and longevity.   

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are the most common fillers used in the world and consist of various sizes of hyaluronic acid particle (Restylane), or a cohesive gel (Juvederm), they are reversible, safe and effective fillers.

Non-Hyaluronic Acid Fillers are hydroxyapatite microspheres in a soluble gel (Radiesse), or microparticles or poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra). The mechanism of Sculptra is different from other fillers, the response is not immediate, it causes an inflammatory reaction that causes collagen production in the injected area.

Permanent Fillers such as Bellafill and Silicon oils are used rarely, their components are walled off by collagen and can’t be degraded. Bellafill has PMMA and purified bovine collagen, therefore a skin sensitivity test must be performed prior to its use.
