Breast Lift

For years women have wanted to transfer some of their unwanted fat areas to their breasts instead to have breast implants. Early attempts at autologous fat transfer to the breast have not proven to be successful due to poor techniques and lack of technology, resulting in less than optimal fat survival. But now, new technological advances in fat harvesting, fat transfer and breast splinting, provides women the option of enlarging and lifting their breasts using their own fat without the use of implants. Breast augmentation with fat transfer is a procedure that redefines the breast for a fuller look. Compared to implants, natural breast augmentation does not involve large incisions, foreign objects or scars.

The natural breast augmentation process involves harvesting patient’s own fat from unwanted areas of fat deposit and relocates that fat to the breasts. After the fat is removed from the donor areas, is place in a container and washed to remove impurities, then is placed in syringes before is transferred to the breasts. The fat placement is performed using a multilayering approach to increase the breast shape and fullness.

After the surgery is completed, patients are taken into a recovery room to be observed and monitor prior to their release. Patients will wear a medical sport bra for 3 to 4 weeks to decrease swelling. Patients can resume their normal activities in a couple of days, however moderate physical exercise, should be delayed for 4 to 6 weeks.

As with any cosmetic surgery, there are risks with this procedure. After a fat transfer there is typically a small amount of fat tissue that will not survive which will cause some volume loss. The amount of fat loss is influenced by many factors such as smoking, diabetes and speed of neo-revascularization in the areas where fat was placed. The lack of fat survival (fat necrosis), can cause cysts, scar tissue or infection. Patients who experience moderate loss of fat tissue may require a secondary fat transfer procedure.
