Microneedling

Microneedling involves using a medical pen like tool to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the superficial layer of the skin to trigger the skin’s repair mechanisms and to stimulate collagen production which helps to rejuvenate your skin. Microneedling can be used in patients with all skin types, without the risk of pigmentation. The generation of new elastin and collagen help to reduce signs of aging leading to more youthful look with fewer wrinkles.

In general, microneedling is a very simple, safe, effective, and minimally invasive therapeutic technique. It was initially introduced for skin rejuvenation, however, now is being used for a wide range of indications such as acne scars, hair loss, hyperhidrosis, stretch marks and many more. It can be used alone or in combination with Platelet rich plasma (PRP). Patients should be willing to wait several weeks before noticing significant improvement from microneedling treatment because, the elastin and collagen formation require some time to have a noticeable impact on your skin complexion.

Home devices do not have the same effect due to less depth of penetration that is insufficient to stimulate adequate amounts of collagen and elastic fibers. Besides, dullness of the needles and higher chance of infections and skin injury.

The microneedling treatment is performed is performed in our office using a numbing cream, and takes around 30 to 40 minutes. Patients may report a minor pain or discomfort. Once the treatment is completed, platelet rich plasma (PRP), or a serum with a vitamin infusion may be added so these components can penetrate deeper into the skin for additional cosmetic benefit.
